People come into coaching because they have a ceiling somewhere, right? There's some belief systems or rule or value or principle that has got them to a certain level but is preventing them from getting to the next level and specifically in coaching if somebody starts to take over saying “I’m gonna tell you how it is this is gonna go like that”, they are likely using the strategy that they actually need to overcome in order to be more successful. So, the very thing they’re trying to use to dominate or direct the conversation is the very thing that they need to correct. It’s the limiting belief that’s holding them back, so as a coach I would highlight that and say “alright mister/ms.pushy you know mister/ms.”, Micro culture you know who’s the coach here if you're trying to take over that, cool if I recognize that limiting belief or pattern, I’ll just bring it out and say “look you asked me to work on this particular pattern, it’s exactly what you’re using now and you know, you want to direct, I’m not saying don’t co-create, you should do that, let’s design and set the expectations together but if they’re stepping outside of that then yeah I would speak up as the coach”.
